SWING OF QUAD CITIES PRESS RELEASE
04/17/05 - Midwest League (MWL) Swing of the Quad Cities
The St. Louis Cardinals announced Sunday that Jose Delgado has been transferred from the Quad Cities to extended spring training in Jupiter, Florida. To fill his roster spot, second baseman Chris Patrick has been called up in time for Sunday’s game against Clinton. The Swing’s roster now stands at 25 active players, the maximum allowed by the Midwest League.
Chris Patrick, a 23-year-old from California, was drafted out of Fresno St. by the Cardinals in the 37th round of the 2004 draft. In 2004 Patrick hit .320 at New Jersey with 13 doubles, making the New York-Penn League all-star team. After a late-season call-up to Peoria, the middle infielder hit .308 with a homer in seven games.
Delgado, a switch-hitting infielder, only appeared in four games with the Quad Cities before being sent down. In seven at-bats he recorded one hit, run, and RBI, for a .143 batting average. The native of Puerto Rico was drafted out of Texas Tech in the 24th round of the 2004 draft.
