Almarante Return Leads Cards' Tuesday Moves

Jose Almarante

Memphis reliever Jose Almarante's return from the disabled list is one of several Tuesday transactions across the St. Louis Cardinals system.

The St. Louis Cardinals' system-wide player transactions for Tuesday, May 27 follow.

Memphis P Justin Wright: Was in Right Place at Right Time

Ever since last Wednesday, May 21, the Double-A Springfield Cardinals had been one pitcher down. At that time, Kurt Heyer was promoted to Memphis. That opening was closed on Monday with a familiar face as left-hander Justin Wright was returned to the Texas League Cards from the Triple-A club.

The 24-year-old had been promoted to Memphis for the first time on May 17. In three relief outings covering 6 2/3 innings, Wright allowed four earned runs (5.40 ERA), but still picked up two vulture wins.

Memphis P Jose Almarante: It Took 10 Days

Coming off the seven-day disabled list, right-handed reliever Jose Almarante took Wright's Memphis roster spot. The 25-year-old had been placed on the DL effective May 17.

For the season, the Haitian native has a 3.48 ERA in 13 appearances. His strikeout to walk ratio is 22 to 10 in 20 2/3 Pacific Coast League frames. Almarante is not on the Cardinals' 40-man roster.

Memphis P Pedro Feliciano: Present and Ready for Action

As first disclosed over the weekend, the Cardinals signed 37-year-old left-handed reliever Pedro Feliciano to a minor league free agent contract. The nine-year MLB veteran with the Mets has joined the Redbirds and will be active effective Tuesday night. He has yet to pitch in game action this season.

Palm Beach C Casey Rasmus: Three-Day Furlough

On Tuesday, Palm Beach Cardinals catcher Casey Rasmus was activated off the Class-A Advanced club's temporarily inactive list, where he had been placed on Friday. In 29 games this season, Rasmus has a line of .238/.274/.305. The left-handed hitter has no home runs and nine RBI in 105 at-bats.

This article will be updated once Palm Beach's corresponding transaction is announced. Catcher Jose Godoy had been added to replace Rasmus and seems the logical candidate to be returned to extended spring training camp.

Update: Godoy was in fact returned to the roster of short-season State College.
