Villanueva has big day

Christian Villanueva hit his 3rd homer.

Christian Villanueva ripped his third homer of the season as the third baseman was 3-4 with a double in Obregon's 7-4 win in the Mexican Pacific League. It capped off a big day for Villanueva as he was named to the AA All-Star team by Topps along with Smokies teammate Arismendy Alcantara.

Arizona Fall League

Albert Almora, Jorge Soler and Kris Bryant all got the start in Mesa's 8-1 win over Peoria Tuesday afternoon. Almora went 1-4 with a RBI while Soler was 1-3, knocking in a run and drawing walk. Bryant singled in four trips to the plate. Lendy Castillo allowed an unearned run in the eighth on three walks and a strikeout. The Solar Sox have a 1/2 game lead over Salt River with two games to play. Both of Mesa's games are with Glendale (13-14).

Venezuelan Winter League

No Cubs prospects saw action.

Dominican Winter League

Junior Lake had two singles, knocked in a run, and stole his fourth base in Estrellas' 3-2 loss to Toros. He also struck out once, was caught stealing, and grounded into a double play.

Mexican Pacific Winter League

Christian Villanueva had his best game of the season going 3-4, including a solo homer in the sixth, his third. The 22-year-old also doubled and scored three times in Obregon's 7-4 win over Mexicali. Villanueva, who's expected to start the year at AAA Iowa, was named a AA all-star yesterday by Minor League Baseball and Topps for his season at Tennessee. Arismendy Alcantara was also honored.

Marcus Hatley(1-1 2.45 ERA) earned the win in Culiacan's 1-0 win over Navajo. Hatley retired both hitters he faced in the top of the ninth and got the victory as Culiacan scored the wining run in the bottom of the ninth on a bases loaded walk. Hatley needed only six pitches in the outing, five were for strikes.

Puerto Rican Winter League

Jonathan Mota doubled in a run and walked in four plate appearances in Ponce's 6-2 loss to Carolina. Rubi Silva didn't play and is out with an injury but is listed day-to-day.

Edwin Maysonet was 3-4 with a double and a run scored in Santurce's 6-3 loss to Caguas.
