Tallies in three straight frames gave the Rafters a come-from-behind 7-2 victory over the visiting Javelinas on Saturday. Salt River (15-12) remains a half game behind first-place Mesa which also won. Their elimination number drops to four with four games remaining.
Trailing 2-0 midway through the fourth, James Ramsey got his squad's offensive engine revved up with a lead-off single to left, subsequently scoring on a one-out double. Two more singles and a fielding error pushed across two more runs and put the home team up 3-2. Ramsey ended up singling once in three at bats with a walk.
After padding their lead with a tally in the fifth, Salt River matched their fourth inning results by touching home three more times. All three scored on Stephen Piscotty's bases-clearing triple, his only hit in three at bats. The right fielder did reach base in the first when he was hit on the left hand by a pitch.
Tampa Bay's Grayson Garvin picked up his third win in five decisions, scattering seven hits and two free passes issued that resulted in two runs in five. The southpaw struck out seven.
Lee Stoppelman, the Rafters' fifth hurler on the night, faced the bottom of Peoria's order in the ninth. The 23-year-old struck out the side, all swinging, with one walk.
