Cardinals minors sport three Players of Week

Ryan Sherriff, Jonathan Rodriguez, Dixon Llorens top players in their respective leagues.

After no Players of the Week in any minor league for three weeks, the St. Louis Cardinals had three announced on Monday, including a pair of teammates.

The A-Advanced Florida State League named Ryan Sherriff and Jonathan Rodriguez Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. In addition, Peoria Chiefs right-hander Dixon Llorens has been selected Midwest League Pitcher of the Week. All awards are for the period of July 29th - August 4th.

On August 3, Sherriff threw a complete game, one-hit shutout against the Dunedin Blue Jays, the first nine-inning complete game for a Palm Beach starter this season. The left-hander walked only one while striking out three in the contest.

Rodriguez continued his impressive month of July into the first week of August. During the award period, the 23-year-old played in seven road games, during which he tallied 12 hits in 26 plate appearances for a .426 batting average. The Puerto Rican native collected nine RBI on three doubles and three home runs and had five multi-hit outings. The right-handed hitter was recently awarded the St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month and The Cardinal Nation Player of the Month for July.

Llorens made three appearances for the Chiefs out of the bullpen this week going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and two saves. The 20-year-old right-hander allowed two total hits and one walk in 6 1/3 innings of work with eight strikeouts and picked up his team-leading eighth save of the season.
