For those who want just the basics about the St. Louis Cardinals’ draft, this is the place for you.

For those who want to dig in and both see and read details about the 41 players selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, The Cardinal Nation has a very comprehensive set of reports for you to view.

Cardinals Draft Day Three coverage (rounds 11-40)
Cardinals Draft Day Two coverage (rounds 3-10)
Cardinals Draft Day One coverage (rounds 1-2)

However, if you are looking for just the basics, this is the place for you!

Here is the breakdown by class, day selected and position. (No third basemen were chosen.)

Days 1-2 LHP RHP 2B SS OF  C 1B
College 2 3 1 0 0 0 0
High school 2 0 0 3 0 0 0

Day 3 LHP RHP 2B SS OF  C 1B
College 3 10 1 3 3 2 2
High school 0 2 0 0 3 1 0

Days 1-3 LHP RHP 2B SS OF  C 1B
College 5 13 2 3 3 2 2 30
High school 2 2 0 3 3 1 0 11
Totals 7 15 2 6 6 3 2 41

When considering those likely first to sign, one should start with the college seniors as that group has the least leverage to enter a long negotiation. On the other end of the spectrum are the 11 high schoolers taken, who have the threat of attending college instead and re-entering the draft later. This year’s signing deadline is July 12.

As denoted by their schools in bold in the table at the bottom, the Cards chose 18 seniors. That includes four in the first 10 rounds, where any money saved can be reallocated to the five high schoolers and two college juniors in that top 10 rounds group.

College 18 8 4 30

The top 10 rounds are governed by a total bonus pool allocation to the Cardinals this year of just over $6.9 million. The Cardinals also selected four high schoolers in the first five rounds afterward, 11-15. If any players taken after round 10 receive more than $100,000 each, the excess will also count against the pool.

Here are the Cardinals' pick values.

Round Overall # Pick value Notes
1 19 $2,055,800
