While Padre fans watched Marquis get lit up in the first, they missed two great pitching performances by Sean O'Sullivan and Jose De Paula who led their teams to victories.

Fresno Grizzlies 6 – Tucson Padres 8

Key Statistics RHP Sean O’Sullivan 7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 4 K; 2-3 (at plate), Grand Slam (1), 4 RBI; 1B Cody Decker 3-5, 2B, HR (1), 4 RBI.

Prospect Watch: This might be the first game of the year that eight different players scored a run (one each), but only two players had RBI (four each)… Prior to tonight’s game, O’Sullivan had not gone farther than five innings in a previous start this year. The home run should not come as a surprise as he was an outfielder and pitcher at Valhalla and considered a prospect at both…After starting out slow, Tommy Layne has thrown four straight scoreless innings, allowing only one hit while striking out four.

Frisco RoughRiders 1 – San Antonio Missions 5

Key StatisticsLHP Jose De Paula 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K; LF Everett Williams 2-4, RS, 2 RBI, SB (4); 1B Tommy Medica 1-2, HR (5), RBI, 2 BB; RF Reymond Fuentes 1-2, 2 RS, 2 BB, SB (9).

Prospect Watch: Jose De Paula finally got his first win of the year in his fourth start. While his five earned runs in four starts is impressive, the most impressive stat is zero walks. While De Paula has always been a control pitcher averaging roughly 2.3 walks per nine innings, his streak of 21.1 innings pitched with zero walks to start the year is remarkable… With another multihit game, Everett Williams has now hit safely in eight straight games, with a multihit game in six of them. He is hitting an impressive .452/.514/.548 during this stretch.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 5 – Bowling Green Hot Rods 10

Key Statistics RHP Zach Efrin 3.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K; CF Mallex Smith 3-4, 2 RS, BB, SB (6); 3B-2B Diego Goris 2-5, 2B, 2 RBI.

Prospect Watch: To the Tin Caps credit they scored the first earned runs allowed by Rays #2 prospect Taylor Guerrieri this season. In fact, Corey Adamson’s RBI double in the second was the first extra-base hit allowed by Guerrieri all season… Zach Efrin has struggled with consistency. Throughout the game one pitch would work but then nothing else. When he would finally get the feel for another pitch, the original pitch would flatten out. It was an extremely frustrating game for the young right hander.

For further reading on the TinCaps’ please see the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette.
