Following Friday’s final spring training game, the St. Louis Cardinals announced the following roster moves, reducing the active roster to the season-opening 25 players. All the moves were expected.
The team officially placed right-handed pitcher Jason Motte (strained right elbow) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, and optioned two 40-man roster players - pitcher Maikel Cleto and outfielder Adron Chambers - to the roster of Triple-A Memphis.
In addition, the final three non-roster invitees - catcher Rob Johnson, infielder Greg Garcia and outfielder Oscar Taveras - were re-assigned to minor league camp. All are expected to open the season with Memphis, as well.
