Cards coaches Miller, Albert move to Astros

Two long-time teachers in the St. Louis Cardinals minor league system are joining Houston for 2013.

The Houston Astros organization added two more members with strong St. Louis Cardinals ties as their 2013 minor league staffs were announced on Friday.

Dyar Miller, not retained as the Cardinals bullpen coach for 2013 after working for the organization for 19 years, has been named Houston's minor league pitching coordinator. The 66-year-old held the same job for the Cardinals from 2008-2011.

Albert was Palm Beach's hitting coach
Palm Beach Cardinals hitting coach Jeff Albert has been hired to be a roving hitting instructor in the Astros system.

2013 will mark Miller's 46th consecutive season working in baseball. He joined the coaching ranks in 1985 and has served as a coach, a pitching coach, a bullpen coach or a roving pitching instructor over the last 28 seasons (1985-2012). Miller's playing career covered 17 years (1968-1984), which included nine Major League seasons with four different MLB clubs.

Albert worked the last five seasons as a hitting coach in the Cardinals minor league system. His first assignment was at short-season Class-A Batavia in 2008, when the club won the New York-Penn League title. He moved up to A-Advanced Palm Beach for the last four seasons. Albert also owns and operates, a site dedicated to baseball training and analysis.

Albert played collegiate baseball at Butler University and professionally in independent ball. Albert earned his graduate degree in Exercise Science at Louisiana Tech University, where he was involved in various baseball training research studies. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

The Cardinals have yet to announce their minor league staffs for 2013, but considerable change is expected.
