Xavier Scruggs knocked in the Cards' lone run

Springfield has one more chance to advance to the Texas League championship after losing to Tulsa on Saturday night at Hammons Field.

Results from the game played Saturday, September 8.

Tulsa 4 at Springfield 1

The Springfield Cardinals were unable to clinch the Texas League North Division Championship in four games as they lost to the visiting Tulsa Drillers (Colorado Rockies) on Saturday night by a 4-1 score.

Springfield's Scott Gorgen served up back-to-back home runs worth three runs in the second, with one unearned due to the first of two errors committed by shortstop Greg Garcia.

In the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals partially answered back with a solo shot of their own. First baseman Xavier Scruggs' home run pulled them back to within 3-1.

Gorgen was finished after five innings, having allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out three.

In the seventh, Deryk Hooker allowed an inherited runner from Justin Wright to score on an RBI single as the Drillers expanded their lead to 4-1. Kevin Thomas finished with two scoreless innings.

Jamie Romak led off the bottom of the ninth with a double but the game ended with him stranded at third. Romak (three) and Scruggs (two) combined for five of the Cardinals' seven hits. Springfield ended 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The decisive fifth game of the series will be held Sunday afternoon, with the winner taking on South Division champ Frisco in the finals.
