The Washington state resident was originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 49th round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft. He reached as high as the Triple-A level with Rochester in 2008-2010. Over his 10-year career, Peterson holds a .271 batting average with 141 home runs, 567 RBI and 581 runs scored in 1,049 contests.
Peterson becomes the ninth veteran minor league position player brought in by the Cardinals to bolster the rosters of Memphis and Double-A Springfield since the 2012 regular season began and is the third in the last two weeks alone.
He follows Cedric Hunter, Lou Montanez, Jamie Romak, Mitch Canham, Aaron Bates, Lance Zawadzki, Jake Shaffer and Ray Kruml. Canham and Bates have since been released and Shaffer retired.
