On the other end, it was the first no-no thrown against the Cardinals since 1990, when then-Los Angeles Dodger and later Cardinal Fernando Valenzuela did it.
Santana's gem was the eighth no-hitter against the Cardinals in their long history, with the first having been in 1919. It was only the sixth to have gone a full nine innings. Among the earlier victors Santana joined are Hall of Famers Tom Seaver and Gaylord Perry.
