Pitcher Brandon Dickson and outfielder Adron Chambers recalled from Triple-A Memphis to cover for injuries to Kyle McClellan and Allen Craig.

The St. Louis Cardinals’ injury woes continue. On Friday, the club placed outfielder/first baseman Allen Craig and pitcher Kyle McClellan on the 15-day disabled list. The two join Jon Jay, Chris Carpenter and Scott Linebrink on the shelf. Carlos Beltran has missed several games due to injury and Lance Berkman recently came off the DL.

Craig suffered a left hamstring strain. His transaction is backdated to May 17. The right-handed hitter previously missed the entire month of April, being activated on May 1, after a spring training setback following off-season knee surgery.

McClellan: 5.30 ERA in 16 games
McClellan, who was in the rotation this time last year but returned to relief part-way through last season, has a right elbow strain. As a minor leaguer, he had Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery that sidelined him for most of the 2006 season.

McClellan returned to St. Louis, where an examination revealed a strained flexor pronator and a small tear of his ulnar collateral ligament, reports FOX Sports Midwest. The tear is small enough that McClellan believes surgery might not be necessary and he intends to try the rehab route. The 27-year-old will not be able to throw for six weeks and will be out at least 10 weeks.

To replace the two, the Cardinals recalled outfielder Adron Chambers and pitcher Brandon Dickson from Triple-A Memphis. The have joined the Cardinals for their series in Los Angeles.

Chambers, 25, has been doing a solid job leading off for Memphis. The left-handed hitter was batting .308 in 37 games this season with one home run and 12 RBI. Chambers appeared in 18 games for the Cardinals last September, collecting three hits in eight at-bats (.375) with four RBI.

Dickson, 27, remains a consistent member of the Redbirds’ rotation in his third year at the level. This season, the right-hander has a 2-3 record with a 3.42 ERA in eight starts. Dickson has allowed 51 hits in 47.1 innings pitched, walking just 11 while striking out 31.

Dickson made four appearances for the Cardinals in 2011, including his first Major League start on September 1 at Milwaukee.
