The St. Louis Cardinals announced Monday they have signed 27 players from the 2011 June First-Year Player Draft. All those signed will be reporting to either Batavia (low-A), Johnson City (R) or Jupiter, Fla., to play in the Gulf Coast League.
The top draftee signed is 7th-round selection Nick Martini out of Kansas State. Additionally, 11 of the next 13 picks following Martini have all agreed to contract terms (7-13 and 15-16, 18-19 rounds). McCluer High School alum, outfielder Lance Jeffries, selected in the 10th round by St. Louis, is one of those included in the early list of signed draft picks.
“It is always a great feeling to see these players that we wanted in our system to sign and begin their professional careers,” said Jeff Luhnow, Vice President of Scouting and Player Development. “Competition begins this Friday (June 17) at Batavia, and next Tuesday (June 21) at Johnson City & GCL Cardinals, so all of us - management, staff, scouts and players – are excited to see the new talent in action.”
