On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals announced the organization’s minor league coaching and training staffs for the upcoming 2011 season.
Mark DeJohn takes over the role of Field Coordinator after serving as the Senior Roving Field Instructor last season, a year removed from managing the 2009 New York-Penn League champion Batavia squad. The field coordinator job had been open the past three years since the departure of Jim Riggleman following the 2007 season.

Derrick May takes the role of Roving Hitting Coordinator after serving as the hitting coach of Double-A Springfield for the past four years, and the previous two before that with Palm Beach (A). Dan Radison, now on Riggleman's major league staff with the Washington Nationals, last held the Cardinals hitting coordinator assignment. The job was unfilled during the 2010 season.
The Cardinal Nation/Scout.com subscribers can listen to a two-part interview with May conducted earlier this month from the Arizona Fall League. He discussed both his AFL pupils and a number of his former Springfield players.
All seven managers of their respective 2010 teams have returned including Mike Shildt, who last season led the Johnson City Cardinals to their first Appalachian League championship since 1976. Five of the Cardinals affiliates made the playoffs in 2010.
Earlier this month, The Cardinal Nation named Shildt our Minor League Manager of the Year for 2010. Click here to read more about his accomplishments.

“We’re excited about the staff we’ve assembled for the 2011 season,” said Cardinals’ Farm Director John Vuch. “We are pleased that we were able to fill two vital coordinator roles internally. Mark and Derrick have been long-time Cardinals and are deserving of this opportunity. With all seven managers returning, it will give each of our clubs added stability and enable us to have continuity in the way we do things from top to bottom in the organization.”
Bryan Eversgerd and Dennis Martinez have swapped positions, with Eversgerd returning to Springfield, a position he held in 2008-09, as did Martinez in Palm Beach.
Dernier Orozco will take the pitching coach job at the Gulf Coast League level, a position he occupied in 2009. He served last year as the pitching coach for the Venezuelan Summer League squad.
Dyar Miller returns as the Pitching Coordinator, Brent Strom as Roving Pitching Instructor and Gaylen Pitts and Mike Matheny as Special Assistants to Player Development.
The Cardinals welcome new trainers to the Springfield and Johnson City affiliates with Jason Hall, a former assistant trainer in the Chicago Cubs organization to Springfield (AA) and Scott Ensell, a former Memphis intern in 2009, to Johnson City (R).
Christophe Conroy will return to Memphis for his seventh season, Manubu Kawazuru will move up to Palm Beach, Eric Bauer to Quad Cities and Mike Petrarca to Batavia. Keith Joynt, the minor league rehab coordinator, will also serve as the trainer for the Gulf Coast League club.
Two coaching positions, the hitting coaches at Springfield and the Gulf Coast League club, will be announced at a later date.
